Can the big azz knobs on the DCH be replaced? How? Why do I have a feeling Stickman has already done it?

Don't all the knobs spin all the way off? At least the DPMS & CMT ones do. What do you want to change them to?

Not sure, won't have my handle till this week. I'd like to replace them with something small and less obvious.

I've pulled them off several different ones, but I can't say as I have ever found a really good replacement or substitute for the knobs that are on there. If you want to use something smaller, make sure you remember that you will have to cut the length down on the screw as well.

At one point I had thought about using a stop nut with the nylon insert on my CCH (cut carry handle), but all the ones I could find were nickle plated, and I was too lazy to do proper prep to make them black with Norrells.

If you replace them with something smaller, remember that they probably aren't going to be field removable if that matters.

I remember the pic of your CCH, that's what I was hoping for. Now I'm kinda leaning towards just swapping out the upper receiver for an A2.

A CCH on an otherwise stock weapon makes for a nice light weight, and well handling carbine, which I happened to have a picture of......

On the other hand, the A2 option would make the overall build cost cheaper..... do you have an A2 upper laying around already?

For what its worth . . .
The knobs are not removeable on milspec carry handles (they bolt is staked - cross pattern).

I don't know if I would stand by this. Several Colts I have do not have the "X" in the end of the bolts and the nuts are not captive.

It seems like it is a time period thing also, but I haven't been able to figure it out for sure.

I also have a Colt CH that is not staked. I thought all Colts were too, but spun them right off.

Ya, I should never be all inclusive when referencing Colt. There is probably a large variety of variation with Colt offerings. But I have only seen the staked ones (at least the ones I checked).

I would guess (?) if it isn't staked from the factory the unit armorers would stake them, as I could see the knobs lost within days of being issued.
