I followed stick's instructions and got PERFECT results on a lower. Super easy, instantly rewarding. I'm looking around the house for something else to coat. By the way, I made a lower painting stand using a piece of wood base with a length of 1/4x28 all thread sticking out - that way I could turn the lower, move it, and bake it without touching it. Oh, and I've fallen in love with MEK too.

cool, stick! Also, if there's a Michael's craft supply store near where you live, they commonly print 40% off coupons in newspapers. Got my badger external airbrush that way, and it works perfect.

I also used Stickman's tutorial and got great results. I've got a S&W 686+ cylinder, hammer, trigger and cylinder release baking in the oven right now.
Anyone know how to put a 686-5 back together?    ???????

The website says it's good for a year but that can be extended if you refrigerate it.

Keep it in a cool dry place, or in the fridge and it should be good for a couple years (or more). If you leave it in the garage where it gets hot in the summer, you are probably looking at a year or so. I've never tried heating it in its liquid state and then trying out the results, so I'll have to just go along with the company recommendations. |

Its posted in a few places, and we will be putting the AR15 and 1911 refinishing guides up on www.rainierarms.com in awhile as well, so I think its up in enough places. This board already has too many things tacked, and information stuffed into enough corners, and without a refinishing forum, I don't see the point in trying to add more. A refinishing forum would be nice, but it has been brought up many times and there just doesn't seem to be interest at the upper levels. They may be seeing a lack of actual interest as part of the bigger picture. They may also be figuring that the builders forum can include refinishing aspects, which I guess would make sense. |
