I am looking to mount a light to my AR, I have been looking around at the various home brew jobs as I don’t want to/can’t spend a fortune on it. I came across an article on the LightFighter boards that described making a “Gangster Grip”. Looks intresting, and I am thinking about trying to make one, but I was wondering if anyone else had unique light mounting options that are big on function and lean on cost.

So if this is bad, how would you mount a cheaper SureFire light such as a G2 or 6P?

i think that grip is just layed there and not actually mounted, at least i couldnt think of any way to reliably hold it to the scope ring.
look up gandrtactical or brightflashlights in the industry forum they have great options to mount lights. |

If you read how it’s made, you cut the top of the grip so it is flat like shown, and then you drill/tap the scope ring and spacer for a 1/4-20 bolt. The unit itself is sturdy, but how the scope ring mounts to the gun would worry me a bit (need to get a good sturdy one).

drill and tap the scope ring cap in which it still needs to hold the light? sounds like itll snap if you put a little force on it it. |

Cheapest and still good? - a $15 dollar M3 type rail mount and a $10 to $15 dollar scope ring used with a Surefire G2.
All depends on where you want the flash light and if you want a vertical grip. |

brightflashlights has a $20 viking tac light mount that works pretty good. Will it survive a drop down a flight of stairs? No idea, but I'd bet it's fine for 90% of civvie applications.

If you are looking to get a light mounted cheaply, there are several products that bolt to the handguards.
If you don't mind drilling your handguards, this may be what you are looking for. |

About as “big on function and lean on cost” as you can get. Two 1” Weaver rings mounted to a Weaver base bolted to the hand guards.

Wow... that is about the ugliest forward grip I have seen. I'm not really a fan of the forward grip the in the first place so IMHO I would just get a nice flashlight mount. -C4- |
