What a pain in the ass these things are!!!!  I'm thinking about drilling these suckers out and just buying a new one with looser taper pins.

Are you making it harder than it's supposed to be

Turn the rifle on it's side with the serial number facing up,
put a 2x4 under the front sight base,
Put a nail setting punch on the taper pin,
hit the punch with a hammer

Dont be shy, you'll have to shock it, they're pretty tough
using a nail set punch works better because it is concave and fits the pin

the 2x4 protects the finish and gives it a solid surface to hit on

B I G G E R   H A M M E R !

tapping them will only mushroom the end of the pin. 1 or 2 good "who's your daddys" should get it free.

Just suport the FSB when pounding. Then tap them out with a small punch, once you break them free they almost slide out. Spinning the FSB once free will make it EZer to remove.  Also some lube on the barrel will help it slide off with out any damage to the finish.

I've done a few but just did the first set on a bushmaster on last friday.  Damn!!!  use a BIG hammer with a punch and you'll be fine just don't baby it also never hurts to spray a little CLP on it.

BFH and BFP. Pins are hardened so drilling will be a PITA.
