Well my father and I have been wanting an AR for some time now and over the weekend he picked up a stripped DPMS lower and all associated parts.  We figured a good way to learn about these rifles was to build one ourselves.  Here I was thinking it was gonna be a PITA to assemble one of these things from scratch, I was wrong.  One of the "hardest" things was that darn front pivot detent.....good thing I have good eyes to see it launch across the table.  We followed FALARAK's "Assemble you own AR from parts...for dummies." thread and it helped a lot.  It was really nice to see actual pictures of what needed to be done instead of some drawing.  I took a few pics along the way of our progress and will most likely have a post when it's complete with all the candid porn shots.  Now that our lower is completed we need to decide on an upper.  We're down to an LMT or a CMT/Stag.  I myslef am leaning towards the CMT because they are a bit cheaper and come with BUIS.  There's almost too much info out there to make a choice, it's flooded my brain.  We are going simple at first with a 16" M4 configuration.  I've been lurking around this site for some time and was awaiting my first post with glee.  So here's hoping it's the first of many.  Now if that darn tax return would just get here so we can get an upper.

So far it's been great, as we only have the lower to build up.  Took us about 45 minutes.  My father is an engineer and we both work for a major defense contractor, pretty straight forward instructions.  Again the "real world" pics were a great idea and demonstrate what to do quite well.  I'm looking forward to the rest of our build which we hope to finish as soon as we can decide on an upper assy.
