Will a bushmaster slipover flash hider mounted permanatly on a 14.5 barrel bring it up to a legal 16 inches?

It should , mine stick's out 1.625" from the end of the barrel !

if thats the length then it wont.

1.625+14.5= 16.125-.5 for the threads since they dont count and you end up with 15.625

If it is 1.625 from the end of the barrel, that measurement is after the FS is threaded on the barrel so you wouldn't subtract the thread length and it it would be 1.625+14.5= 16.125. It would be legal length if permanently attached.

but then theres the .5 which is threaded on the 14.5

but i might be understanding it wrong

I read it as if he screwed on the FS and then measured inside the FS from the end of the barrel to the end of the FS. If that's the case, you wouldn't subtract the threads. Normally guys measure the whole FS uninstalled and forget about subtracting the thread width.
