Just switched out my rifle buffer and stock for a carbine buffer in a magpul stock.
Havn't got to shoot it yet, but while charging the weapon, it is noticably "sproingier" in sound than it was with the rifle buffer.

is this normal?

Yes, but a little CLP on the recoil spring and inside of the receiver extension will cut down on the noise.
