That's strange. If your detent moves freely when you press it down then there should not be a problem. Does your upper have a small notch where the detent should slip thru?

Try putting a little penetrating lube on the detent and push it down a few times. It may just be a stiff spring or a rough edge on the notch of the upper. |

Problem solved. Had to work from the end to the detent applying even pressure. Did this repeatedly until things smoothed up. Thanks for the help.
