What's holding it on?

Are there new ones available or new metal plates available?

Pooby,
Matt from Ironwood here,
I don't think it comes off. I believe it is cast into or permanently glued to the butt. I was looking at that same feature when I received your A1 set. Came to the conclusion that it does not detach.

Thanks,
Matt

Then how the hell did you figure out stock? Did you have a later one with the metal plate?

If you're talking about the later A1 stock, with the butt trap, you just remove the two screws holding it on.  The first issue type, without the butt trap, is a molded on piece, and has to be cut or ground off.  I did it once, to put a later type buttplate on. Ended up working out, but looked crappy.  Currently sits in my junk parts box.
