All, getting ready to attempt my first refinish job.  I came across a deal I couldnt pass up on a Colt M4 upper assembly and just ordered a 6721 lower to mate it up to.  The M4 upper is in that older "Colt Grey", no scratches or gouges.  Since the lower is brand spanking new, I dont want tp paint that, but would like to paint the upper to get close to the lowers black color.  Anyone have any suggestions on a paint that closely matches the "new" Colt Black?  Any help is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance for your help.  Joe.

I would go with Norrell's MolyResin in Black, Flat.

Thanks, I just ordered some.  Stick gave the same advice, saying I shouldnt heat the surface too much prior to painting.

Yeah, you want a hint of gloss to it.  Low prep heat is the way.

So if I want no gloss I shouldnt heat it at all?  Im looking for "No gloss".

Being as I've matched an upper to a Colt 6721 lower, I would say to degrease, have a SLIGHTLY warm surface, and then spray the upper.  If you don't know how much to warm your item, then leave it alone and just spray it without warming.  Remember that you need to spray VERY light coats to avoid any issues with runs or heavy spray.

To say that you will pick up a light sheen is true, but if you haven't worked with it, you aren't going to understand some of what we mean.

I feel your pain!   Here's an older M4A2 upper on a 6920 lower.
Hope your project comes out OK, please post some before/after photos.

PS- Cool screen name!
