Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Carbine build? Which type barrel (HBAR or light weight) to use and why?

I am building my first kit and was wondering which barrel to use. I will be doing informal target shooting. The rifle will also be back-up home defense and it may spend a lot of time in the cab of my truck.

I can see pros and cons of each type barrel.

What are your thoughts?

Here's my take.

Light weight is well ... light.

An Hbar is theoretically going to hold accuracy a bit longer because 1) it will take longer to heat up 2) it will distort less at a given temp.  But is heavy.

given that, it is up to you.
