I've had a Bushmaster rifle that ran when clean, ran when dirty, shot Wolf, never bobbled until I stuck a USA mag in it.
I'd like to build my own gun, now that I can put a collapsible stock on it.
I'd like to build one that will be relatively problem-free, like the BM was.

Who's the best quality/ low price lower manufacturer?

Are the Star lowers any good?
Should I just pay a few more $ and go for Bushmaster?

I would suggest a  MEGA lower.  They are nice.

Pretty much any lower on the market is going to be fine, from a reliability standpoint.  Just buy whats cheap.  Stag, RRA, Ameetec, DPMS, Mega, etc..etc..etc..

Reliability is going to come from getting a good bolt/carrier, quality upper receiver, and most importantly, a quality barrel, with a chrome lined NATO spec chamber.

go with a stag arms lower. I own several and it's the best fit and fininsh I have ever seen. They are also priced very well.

The easiest way of picking a lower: look at the logos and pick whichever one you like the best.

I'll tell ya bud, for the slight $15-$25 difference you'll pay between a really good lower and a so-so lower, get a good one. The lower is the heart of the AR, don't scrimp there. It's like the motherboard of a computer system, if it aint right, the system will never be right...

I like my Stag lower.  It's every bit as good as my Bushy lower, at half the price.
