I received 2 A2 rear sight kits from DPMS. 1 kit had correct parts but 5 springs for the flip sight. The other kit had correct parts but included a part I never seen when building up AR's. It is 3/16 inches long, 1/8 diameter and a third of its lenth is turned down to 1/16 inch. Any idea what it is? Thank You

Is it threaded on part? If so it is the set screw that holds the two sight wheel pieces in the correct alignment.www.ar15.com/content/manuals/manual_bushmaster.pdf

If you look at the parts drawing on htis manual pg 30 pdf  or page 54 book page numbers it show the sight and the index screw.

Thanks for the reply. It was not the threaded part. The other kit did not have this part.

That sounds like the detent used for securing the windage drum on an A-1 rear sight.  It probably got mixed in with some A-2 sight parts at the factory.
