we put a collapsable stock on a friends preban and ran into a slight problem.
i didnt know i lost the takedown pin spring detent and when i went to put everything back together the buffer retainer will come out when cycling the action. what prevents the buffer retainer from popping out when the buffer is compressed.?

The buffer tube screws in and the forward lip of it keeps the buffer retainer in place.  You must not have screwed in the buffer tube far enough.  The take down detent and buffer retainer operate independently so anything that happens to one has no affect on the other.  You will just have to buy the detent, about a buck, from Brownells.
