I have some questions on shooting different calibers.

I am wanting to buy an upper half from Model 1 and a stripped mega lower. 16", A3 upper, .223.

To shoot 7.62x39, can I just buy:
barrel $170
Bolt Assembly, complete, 7.62x39mm $55
magazines
tools needed to change barrels.

Is this technically sound? Is there a better way?

Thanks,
mjcmbk

You would also need all the other small pieces that go with an upper such as the front sight parts (model 1 barrels do not come with them), gas tube & roll pin, a delta ring kit and handguards. The biggest issue will be finding reliable 7.62x39 mags and those won't be cheap - around $35-45 right now. If capacity isn't a big deal, then MWG 10-rounders work pretty well and are around $15. The better way to do this is to search the EE. I believe there are a few 7.62x39 uppers for sale.

I have been told that if I went from a 16" .223 barrel to a 16" 7.62x39 barrel, that I could use the same parts (gas tube, pins, handguards, etc). The barrel does come with a barrel nut and front sight (from Model 1 at least).

Does this sound right?

A Yugo SKS for less than $200-----seriously.

The 7.62x39 AR----is an abomination.
