Ditto, small ones w/ papertowel or one of those rubber jar opener thingys (works better) around tube, grip it close to the FSB rotate tube back/forth and tap grips with hammer, careful not to crush the tube. Mike |

I ended up cutting my crudded-up gas tube with a dremel, bending it 90 degrees, and using the leverage from the 4" of tube to get it to rotate so I could loosen it up enough to get it to move. Darn thing was NASTY in there. That reminds me, the new tube/pin should be arriving today.

If Kroil doesn't break it loose, it's stuck pretty good. I've had good luck using the gas tube tool, even though a long time ago I thought they were mostly a gimmick. They aren't. Sometimes a whack on the back of the tube--with a piece of plastic between the tube and the hammer--works. If you're really good with vice grips you may be able to twist it enough to break it loose without killing it, but I can't. How's the Atlanta gang? I miss the North Atlanta show. Will be gone for another year. |

I used to do it with a pair of vise grips.I finally broke down and bought the tool for it.It has a screwdriver type handle and on the front it screws onto and clamps onto the gastube.NOt sure who sells it since i bought it on the EE but it works great.Just clamp it on the tube.give it a few twists to brake it free and slide it out of the gas block.Never had a problem since them.

It's a lot easier to just heat the FSB with a propane torch. Twist the tube and voila.

I get a small cloth or rag and put it over the tube. With a set of pliers, grasp the tube through the rag in the middle and gently work it loose.

I had a problem once where I could turn the gas tube freely but it still would not come out. Basically the carbon had built up in the ridges of the gas tube on each side of the gas port hole creating a mechcanical interlock with the FSB. Eventually, soaking with CLP softened up the carbon enough that I could pull it out.

insane4guns, I wondered about that tool. Bushmaster sells them. I still don't have the damn tube out. I got tired of screwing with it last night and just soaked it in Kroil. If it doesn't come out this afternoon, I might put a torch to it. Not sure if I'm patient enough to wait for the gas tube tool to be delivered.

Well, the damn tube is still stuck. I mean this bithc will NOT move. I'm buying the damn Bushmaster tool. I hit the thing hard with a torch last night to see if that would loosen things up. I also have been soaking the thing in Kroil. Tried leaving it in the freezer over night. Nothing has worked.
Last night I finally got pissed off enough to cut the f%@!ing tube in half with a hacksaw so I could at least remove the barrel from the upper. The tube was scratched up bad enough from using vice grips, etc. that I didn't want to save the tube anyway. Any other thoughts on what I can do to remove the tube (or what's left of it)? |

I have a ?. If you're replacing the FSB, why not just knock the taper pins out and pull the whole MFer off and throw it away?

Try tapping it INTO the front sight a few times with a small hammer. That might help break the bond. Then grab it with the pliers and twist it out.

I wasn't exactly clear previously when I said I was installing a new gas block. I'm really switching around a few things on a few different rifles. One rifle is getting a barrel replaced (trading a 1:9 for a 1:7) and another barrel is getting a low profile gas block. This particular rifle when the stuck gas tube is going to be a spare barrel until I figure out what I want to do with it later. Sorry for the misunderstanding, but I do want to keep the gas block on this particular barrel. On a side note, I thought it might be easier to screw with this gas tube if I had the FSB off. Well, I've been real lucky lately when removing the FSB from Bushy barrels. My luck didn't hold up so well last night. The taper pins just wouldn't bust loose. I stopped beating on the pins before I mushroomed the pin heads or damaged/scratched the FSB. I've had to cut a FSB off another Bushy barrel and I'd rather avoid having to do it again if at all possible. |

Grab it with pliers, and tap on the pliers with a hammer in a direction away from the FSB.
