My Colt came with the cheap plastic buffer and after many hundreds of rounds it still looks fine but I gave in to the idea of a metal buffer being better so I bought one from M&A parts, now I'm wondering which is better a cheap mil-spec part  or the plastic buffer or is there another option out there?

I need to add that I shoot max reloads if that makes a difference.

I was pretty impressed with the plastic Colt buffer I had, but I replaced it with an aluminum Colt part just for piece of mind.  If you want to replace it, I would do it with a part from one of the first tier manufacturers.

I've done a good bit of business with M&A Parts.  I haven't been disappointed yet.

TOM64, is this a rifle or carbine buffer?  Is the plastic buffer any lighter than the metal one you bought?  If it is, I'll take it off your hands if you want to sell it.

It is a rifle buffer and weighs about the same but I'll probably hang on to it for now.

The plastic is a coating on a metal buffer underneath.  We had problems with them cracking where the bolt carrier smacks it on our Department issue MT6601C's.  We are in the process, now, of replacing them with AR6520's
