I am building a "fun gun" CAR 15 for my kids and I to plink with and shoot not farther than 200 yards. Any ideas on whether or not I should go with the lightweight model instead of the standard model. My kids are young but I dont think the added weight would make a difference. I just want to know what benefits you could come up with.

I'm doing the same thing for my son. I put a shorty A2 stock on it and just got the lightweight barrel from Model 1 last week. When he's bigger I'll just put on a longer stock and heavier barrel if needed.

The lighter the better. It will be much more fun and much easier to aim if it is lighter. Every ounce will help in an afternoon of shooting.
