Just wondered why some lowers are stamped 223 and some 5.56 they both shoot the same ammo right?

The stamping on the lower is the companies choice,what matters is what the barrel is chambered for. As for "they shoot the same ammo"; [url]www.ammo-oracle.com[/url]

The real problem is with the (stupid) [i]barrel[/i] manufacturers, who rarely clearly mark what barrel twist, manufacturer, chamber, etc. on the barrels. It could be so easy to do so, but.......

.556 is a NATO round. You can shoot .223 ammo with a .556 chamber, but you can't shoot .556 in a .223......Is that clear as mud or what?

Not Totally clear, e.g. Ruger Mini 14's are marked .223 on the receivers but they are actually Chambered in 5.56 .

A lot of guns that are marked .223 can actually Shoot 5.56 ammo.
Some Oly's are Marked .223 but they can take 5.56.

There are no hard or fast Rules really , but its important to know what youve got.

And of course some, like DPMS and Bushmaster, mark the lowers 5.56-.223[:D]
