sorry,
i am going to assemble my first new stripped lower and have read that it is good to put tape on it to prevent scratching |

Masking tape works just fine. If it pulls the finish off, you've got a crappy lower.

I use 4 layers of masking tape, but the cellophane packing tape with the nylon strands is virtually indestructable...I just didn't have any on hand.

I laid a plastic baggie on the side of my receiver as I used a brass hammer and punch to knock in the bolt catch roll pin!!!
I built my 1st lower this weekend! I am sooooo stoked!!!!!!! Next stop is building my own upper!!!!! |

You get the biggest rush from putting together your own lower. You start with a pile of springs and stuff and end up with a beautiful thing that goes click every time.
The bolt catch is the scariest thing to do though, as you can scratch the hell out of the receiver if you aren't careful. |

Im getting ready to build my 1st lower as well. Any advise on tips or tricks. I plan on using the forum here to be my guide. What should i have as far as tools. Id rather learn from others mistakes rather than my own.

Just used duct tape less than fifteen minutes ago without a scratch. Did flex the pin first, started it, and drove in verticle postion with my punch at a slight angle.
