I jumped out and bought a THORNTAIL. Looking forward to it. However, that Mount-n-slot stuff looks awful. Anybody know when these will ship? B Can you reply with your name, so I can ask HSP to cancel your order? Seriously... what makes MOUNT-N-SLOT kit "Awful?" We'd like to know... maybe we're missing something you see and your honest comments can help us improve. Thanks, MOUNT-N-SLOT |

Odd question here but can a Scout Light be reversed on the thorn tail mount to where the head and body goes back over the pic rail mount?

Odd question here but can a Scout Light be reversed on the thorn tail mount to where the head and body goes back over the pic rail mount? Yes. You can position the arm facing rearward from the clamp. An then attach the Scout facing forward. The arm is machined to accept the Scout either facing forwards or rearwards on the arm. MOUNT-N-SLOT |

I'm assuming this won't work with the surefire M series lights right? I run a M961XM07 and would love to get the dropwing for it.

Is there some sort of list so we can check what rail systems are compatible with the Dropwing?
For me specifically, I'm looking at an application for an SWS/Noveske rail |

For me specifically, I'm looking at an application for an SWS/Noveske rail On our site, there is a drop-down filter which lists known compatible Quad Rail Systems. Post a close-up pic of the front sight area of your rail so we can reply. THORNTAIL works for sure. Right now, the only rail system that is not compatible is the Daniel Defense LITE rails... The dropping is a nice looking mount but does not fit as I had hoped on the URX3 rail. I may need to build a spacer and buy longer bolts to raise the mount a little to clear the rails on the end of the hand guard. Can anyone tell me the size and thread pitch of bolts that come with the mount?

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/ee503/Byrd-Shooter/IMG-20111220-00085.jpg The vent holes are too large for DROPWING's Backing Plates. What rail is this? THORNTAIL would work great on the 3 0r 9 position. Can I see a pic of what's mounted to the 3 & 9 rail in front of the XTM Rail Panels? Then I'll know for sure. MOUNT-N-SLOT |

In his review by Matt at: 'Jerking the Trigger", he explains the advantages of THORNTAIL. 2- Price: THORNTAIL is less, including shipping, than either Gear Sector / LaRue 3- Innovation: THORNTAIL was designed by Travis Haley, who applied his vast experience as a Force Recon Marine, Blackwater Contractor when the Iraq War began, his experience as founder of Magpul Dynamics and now, CEO of Haley Strategic. Anyone have any idea the shipping wait for HSP on orders made before Christmas. I sent an email to them directly, but they are probably being swamped right now.

If I'm reading this correctly anything under 1" diameter would need a home made spacer (since both Scout Lights are 1")? I have a Klarus NT10 (21.5 mm (0.846") I'd like to use with the Dropwing.
Just want to confirm before I buy one. Thanks |

Quoted: Quoted: Got my Thorntail in today. you can flip it either way right? like you could have the flashlight in the same spot? but have the mount on the top rail instead of the side? Yes you can. You can mount it on the side, on the top, or on the bottom. The whole idea was to have a mount that lets you put the light where you want it, and, have the light forward of and or off the rail. Forward off the rail means you can get it past the FSB (if you have one) to reduce the shadow effect on the barrel, and to free up the entire handguard so the position of the light does not interfere with your grip on the gun. As noted somewhere else, the advantages may be somewhat limited on an SBR where you don't want the light even with or in front of the muzzle, but you can move the mount fore and aft on the rail to get it where you want it. Hopefully I'll have a camera that works shortly. One place where the thorntail has really stood out for me is on my A4 clone. I can place the mount on the M5 RAS, and the mount will clear the area on the side where there is no rail, (the grenade launcher cut out) and still get the light out past the FSB. (Using a standard size Scout) |

Mine did not sit flush. I have a Gen 2 2-piece drop in for Colts, The rail is slightly thicker at the end near the handguard cap which causes the mount to sit at an angle. I have an older MI rail on another rifle and the dropwing will definately fit on that since the non-rail parts are all even. Here are some pics of what I'm talking about.

(Using a standard size Scout) The Thorntail's low profile should be perfect with the UltiMAK system & a low-slung red-dot. I'll know on Wed when mine arrives! Thanks for listening to what gunners want/need! |

[#42]
The Thorntail can indeed get the bezel of a M600 (I tried a Vampire) all the way out to the front gas block. If you think that's a good idea. You'll have to mount the Thorntail at the front of the Ultimak, because the extension disallows placement of anything on the rail next to the extension.
There is a good selection of quality light mounts that work on the Ultimak with Micro-type sights. Vltor, LaRue, Danger Close. Quoted:

No I think the rail is fine. I think the dropwing just isnt compatible with this particular rail.

I just received the 1.00" Thorntail. It is a nice mount but unfortunately won't work for my application. I tried to install a 6P LED Defender into the mount and the ring was too stretched to get the threads started on the opposite screw. It seems the ring is too small for the light body. Both screws will thread with the ring around the non-knurled portion of the light where the base of the body and tailswitch meet and allow a positive clamping action to be achieved, how ever this really positions the light too far forward. This all was a moot point as the mount is so low-profile (which I understand it was designed to be) that the ability to use an XM07 tailswitch/remote in conjunction with the 6P to make a franken-weaponlight is impossible.
