Is the Malcoff M60 too hot for a surefire polymer body flashlight if left on for over 20 min?  I don't want to melt off the front end?

Per malkoffdevices.com:

"Note: This drop-in module was intended to operate at maximum brightness for tactical usage similar to the original setup. Operating the unit for more than 15 continuous minutes in plastic lights may cause damage to the drop-in module. This is not an issue in metal lights."

I wouldn't do it.

Yes! You can get an aluminum replacement bevel that will help, but the rest of the polymer body still will not function as a heatsink.

I ordered a 6P Defender so I wouldn't have to put the Malcoff in a polymer body.

The M60L and M60LL are safer bets for a G2.

The M60LL is what I have in a pair of G2s... 8 hours run time and 80-90 lumens.

Order an M60LL or buy a Surefire 6P/D. What are you using the light for? If it is a weapn light I would upgrade to an aluminum bodied Surefire and use the G2 as a flashlight.

I have an M60 in my Z32 bezel-equipped G2, but do not intend to ever run it for more than a couple seconds at a time.

FWIW

I was bored this morning.  Here's a pic:

Yup. Just got mine yesterday. It doesn't seem much brighter than the P61 bulb, but it is brighter.

I still want to see one of those three LED Mag-Lite D cell drop-in heads in action. If they really project well I might get one of those too. I drive a taxi and too many people don't make their address numbers easy to find in the dark. I want a light that'll illuminate the house so well the entire neighborhood will know their cab has arrived.

Why would a regular Joe have his light on for 15 straight minutes?

Broken u-joint on my Jeep. Had to pull rear shaft and drive home as front-wheel drive.

It took about 15 minutes in the dark, on the side of the highway. My LED Mag-Lite was a lifesaver.
