Sweet write up - i say 4 outta 7 for the  Variable ELR is the "majority winner" in my book
i dunno about anyone else (and no, i don't need one, just think NV is the coolest thing since the AR!

very cool

one thing that i found intersting with the M1 was the LED chosen for it. Surefire didn't put a very high end IR led in there.

If you still have the shots I took in Iraq you might want to add them to this thread.

As I understand it, the Surefire is only sold to LEO/Mil.  Are any of the others available to regular guys (like me)?  Thanks.

Maybe I am getting my comments off track with the discussion.  I just looked it up and I was referring to the Surefire L75 laser sight.

http://www.surefire.com/surefire/content/l75_full.jpg

Is there a comparable product available to regular guys?

Sorry if I am a bit off track from the thread.

Wow.. nice write up.  Don't usually look at the flashlight section.  Now I know how the Fix torch compares to the rest.  Not bad at all!

BTW I just wanted to give you props (and thanks) for replacing my Fix Torch with the loose lense.  (Victor even paid for the shipping)

Great products.  Great service.

I have a new d-740 ms 2+ and a new DA Torch.

I can't get much better than 100 yds with the da torch.

I bought these items 3 weeks ago and both are back at Optichq as i write.

My experience with the torch is a lot less than the pictures in Victors Illuminator comparison.

Don't know what the problem is yet no word from Mike at Optichq........

At this point I'm not a happy camper...........

Edited to add MS 2+

Ever try a Streamlight Sidewinder?  I picked one up yesterday, but my NVD died some months ago, so am not able to test it.

It's not weapon mounted; I intend to mount it on a helmet.

Just asking.  No hurry, no worry.

ETA> The military version has a built-in IR illuminator....

+1, a nice in depth review and comparison of say the peq-2, paq-4, vital-2, atilla, gcp, dbal-a^2, atpial, etc.  Speaking of, i thought i saw a pic of yours that had an atpial in it.  What do you think of that unit compared to the dbal-a^2?

Great review Vic!
I'm really looking forward to seeing the comparison with the relatively new Surefire V2 added in as well

Currently trying to sell some of my other lights to get a Vampire.  Hope you get a review up before I do.

I purchased one of the new Vampire lights off the EE new in wrap for significantly less then MSRP.
Having just had it for an hour or so, here are a couple of observations.

Victor states that the mount is non-switchable.  Perhaps the mount has been changed, but I was able to turn it around on mine.

I like how Surefires throwlever works, but it is huge, and I've already accidental released it once already.  Don't know if I like it.

As for the white light, it doesn't throw the perfectly round beam I am used to from Surefire.  Perfectly functional, but I was surprised to see that.

Would you be so kind as to compare the Torch Pro and the SPIR please?

The comparison of the Vampire was what I would have expected.  I have a M952V, but might try switching to a M720V for size and weigh savings.

What are the odds of you guys doing a comparison with the regular SF vampire head and a 720V?  Or maybe a 720V against the DBAL-D2 or Torch Pro?
