Flipping through a tac magazine from September '05, I saw a Surefire ad for 123A's, 12 for $15.  Needing more, I went to their site and found they've jacked up the price to $21, plus almost $10 for shipping!
Screw that!

The hunt was on, I needed good quality 123A's on the cheap.

I ran across a great review of a new CR123A battery at Flashlight Reviews.  These guys live & breath flashlights & seem to really have their shit together.

Anyways, the review & postive comments on their site lead me to AmondoTech's 'Titanium' CR123A

I ordered 28 @ $1 each, plus a flat, plastic case that holds 12 CR123A's ($9).
Best of all, shipping was only $6.95 ($5.95 w/out insurance)!

NOTE:  There are three different catagories for shipping on their website, the first for me was USPS Priority @ ~$16, click on the "Additional Shipping" button and it will cycle thru Fedex (~$10) and then regular flat-rate USPS (~$6).

I'll post an update when the order arrives & I burn thru a couple sets.

I'm really optimistic and at $1 each, SCREW SUREFIRE!  They already rape you on the cost of their lights & bulbs, and their discounted batteries at least made it bearable HA, no more!

I compared these against SF batts awhile back and the the SF batts kicked the crap out of them (with an extra 10 minutes of run time).

Interesting ...

Have you compared the SF against the Battery Station's brand?

How many actual manufacturer's are there, anyway?  Surely a majority of the brands come from a few factories with different labels on contract, don't they?

Hummm, perhaps they just don't like you; fwiw, the last box of 72 CR123s I ordered from them before Christmas they charged me less for shipping than you just paid for 12 batts.

I bought two dozen Pentagon CR123's for, I think it was $28.00.  I thought that was a pretty good price.

I believe that those were an older batch of Titanium batteries.  The newer ones are supposed to be MUCH better.  By the way....I don't use them.  I use Battery Station and Sanyo.

Maybe. I have contacted them about getting some more as I do believe they have changed their design.

They have,

The guy that runs amondotech.com was very disappointed to find out how poorly his cells performed.  He had them reformulated to make them a top notch cell.  I am impressed at this level of commitment to put out a quality product.  The new cells were made to perform better with higher current draw like what you would get from a higher output incandescent lights.

I'm liking the double cell packs for $2.  I guess they are two 123s sealed into one and they are matched to ensure they work at peak performance with one another.

Grant...when you test them...could you please run them in both regulated and unregulated LEDs
at least up to 3 watt single bulb Luxeons? and run them against the Battery Stations home brewed CR123As?

thanks

I would also warn people that if you buy these batts directly from AmondoTech, you will be raped on shipping. I think I paid $6.00 for 1st class mail for 6 batts.

That kinda defeats the savings of the battery, eh?

Will be keeping eye out on these (when Grant carries them) and the PentagonLight ones.  Anyone know off the top of their head what shipping is on those from PentagonLight?

eta:  Went and checked myself.  Pentagonlight.com has case of 2 dozen for $1.19 each.  Shipping is $10 ($25 for 2-day express).  These guys think they shipping tanks???  They are just batteries!  Sheesh!

Hell, even with the high gas prices, I might come out cheaper driving to VA to buy from Grant directly!

Oh well, gotta have 'em...  Will look into them harder when my Surefire arrives.

I have gotten some of these batts and compared them against my SF batts. I used two SF M3 as my testing vehicle. Both lights had about 80 minutes of useful light, but both ran well past 90 minutes with some light eminating.

I would personally say that the Titanium batts are an excellent value and have ordered 800 of them.

I would also warn people that if you buy these batts directly from AmondoTech, you will be raped on shipping. I think I paid $6.00 for 1st class mail for 6 batts.

C4 - Have you had a chance to compare the titanium's against the Pentagon's? They are both
priced the same and have also read good things about the Pentagon's.

NO MORE Surefire batteries for me either. Agreed that they should have kept them at 1.25 as
it only kept people coming back for batteries and more light, bulbs, etc.

PLEASE drop me a line when you recieve your Titaniums.

Thanks.

I once ordered a Buna rubber o-ring  from Canada (the only place that had them) the O-Ring cost 12 cents and the shipping was $12.50

I only ordered one because they last 20yrs + and I didn't think the machine was going to last another 20.

I have been stocking/using the Pentagon batts for some time. They advised that that they are going to be switching to an even better battery, but their prices are going to go up. So it would appear that the Titanium batts are going to be the best bang for the buck (as long as you buy them direct and hit with their shipping charges).

C4

Do you know when the new Pentagon batteries are going to be released? I know that they are back ordered until early February.

I bought battery station batts last time around.  I had bought titaniums before but got raped on shipping.  There is a specials page listed on candlepowerforums.com that gives a link to batterystation.com specials page to get their batts for a buck a pop.

I had a really bad experience with Amondotech.  I ordered 50 cr123's in September.  They took two weeks to ship my order.  I called and emailed several times with no response. I purchased them through ebay and it took me filing a complaint before the batteries shipped.  I recieved them as described, but have run into problems with about 20% of them.  In my Surefire G2 about 20% run for 10 minutes and then power down to a dim light.  I thought it was a problem with the light at first, but using surefire batteries I haven't had the problem occur.  Oddly enough in my streamlight M3 I don't have the problem, but then again I run it primarily for short burst with the pressure switch.  Hopefully this was a  problem that was corrected with the new formula, but I'd rather spend a little more and not worry.  This is just my experience.
