Tell me the story about these units.  Are they any good?  Are they worth the BIG bucks?  I ask because you have to buy a railed forearm (~$300) and the unit for a total approaching $1k (MSRP) ! ! !

Are they good?  Yes.  In fact, they are excellent.
Are they worth the money?  It depends on what you intend to use them for.

I have two, both acquired used (and therefore far below retail).  They function extremely well mounted on my CAR-15s.  One is mounted on a $105.00 YHM foreend (this had to be fitted to my Colt M-4 barrel), the other using a $35.00 GG&G rail on a standard CAR handguard.  Both set-ups are solid and reliable.

I considered an M500 series assembly, but did not want to be dependent on a proprietary handguard assembly.  Also, I am left-handed, which would have required my inverting the assembly in order to access the controls.  This is not an issue with the M900, which is truly ambidextrous.

Stock, these lights are significantly brighter than a 6P.  They are easy to activate, and provide a tactical advantage to the extent they temporarily "blind" an opponent and illuminate a potential target for identification purposes.

I have been trying to understand how to manage a flashlight while operating an AR.  It seems like a difficult set of skills.  A weapon mounted light seems like a BIG advantage.  The thing is, buying an M900 ($450) and a Samson forend ($300) is a bunch of money  just to add the flashlight to the weapon.

I know, I know, if you ever need it, it will seem inexpensive.
