I'm looking at picking up a Surefire Millenium weapon light and wanted to hear opinions on whether to get one with the thumbscrew or throwlever mount. I will be attaching it to an KAC RAS on my M4gery. Comments, advice, pros & cons welcome

I sold all my ARMS products, tired of loose fit.I use the screw mount,at least until Larue's mount is available.

I was leaning towards the thumbscrew mount because of similar compliants I've heard here. I'm not sure if there are any cons to going with the thumbscrew or not? Edited to add that I do have an ARMS mount for my Aimpoint and haven't had any "looseness" issues yet. |

if i can i'll choose a larue throwlever... and crank it onto my rails hard as heck...
if i have the choice to use a arms throwlever vs. screws... i'd pick the screws... edit oh... duh... i forgot which forum i was in.... for lights... screws all the way |

Can you sufficiently hand tighten the thumb screws or do you need to use a quarter & pliers, screwdriver, etc.? I know the throwlevers don't require tools for mounting / dismounting.

The thumbscrews have a 'slot' that you can insert a coin or similar flat device to aid you if more than hand-tightening is required.

Go with the thumb screws for several reason. First, they are cheaper, two they are better than the ARMS throw lever and third if you want to change out the mount to the new LT SF mount it will be cheaper for ya!

I use the ARMS lever mounts and I couldn't be happier. Mine all fit tight. |

Your one of the lucky ones!  To be honest it isn't about just changing out the mount, the LT SF replacement mount allows you to put the SF weaponlight where you want it (has about 6 diff. heights).C4 |

LaRue is working on them (Damn Aimpoint Cantilever mount took priority). There is only about 3 of these on the planet and I have one of them.

Mark originally wanted to make the mount for the legacy lights. I spent a long time on the phone dissueading him from this.
The reason is simple. His mount business is founded on and primarily used by the military. There are few legacy lights used by the military, and those units using those older lights will not normally be interested in purchasing offset mounts. He agreed, bought an M9XXXX from Grant and made the offset mount. I have been using mine for 5+ months now, and love it. There will be an article in next month's SWAT re Weapon Mounted White Lights (read M910 and M9xxx here) and if the editor agrees with my photo choice, there will be some pics of the mount/ ight on a working gun. It will discuss the issue of thumbscrew/ throw levers also. Blame me for the Offset mount being for the newer lights rather than the legacy lights, but there are priorities at work here and the user community is pretty well defined. |
