To use Surefire equipment you'll need an original aluminum tailcap housing (#11690-1) and then add the desired length tape switch (5" or 6" are considered most universal). That combo is approx. $70. I also carry an excellent aftermarket tapeswitch that's complete with tailcap that's only $25.

bf... how reliable is the $25 aftermarket tapeswitch? I am a little skeptical of trying it since it is so much cheaper than the sf.

Picked up one not long ago from BF...
The quality of the tape switch impressed me. It exceeded my expectations and has worked great. I can't say how long it will last but, by the looks of it, it should last. BF is great to deal with and I recieved it quick! I like SF and their products but, for a tapeswitch I believe they are a little overpriced. |

Tape switches are a source of constant problems, be sure you have a spare and some way to hold it on.
If you can position the light so you can slide your support hand forward and push the button on the rear of the light you'll have few if any problems of any sort, to include [i]not[/i] turning the light on accidently! -- Chuck |

I haven't exactly had the time to torture test like I would want but for the time we've been playing with 'em down here we're pleased with them. I've also offered everyone a no hassle guarantee* for the first six months on this, so if it fails you, send it back for a full refund. No one has had any complaints or problems so far. * Excludes snipping it in half or similar type rough handling. [i](Don't laugh, I know somebody who lost a SF tapeswitch that way.)[/i] |

You have to worry about location concerns, snagging concerns, accidental activation, etc. However, if the needs aren't extreme or you have location issues that are a problem tapeswitches can provide some user comfort.
