I am still skeptical about using a scope ring to put my G2 or 6P on my rifle.  Just an update I have a dpms bull barrel upper that has round freefloated handguards so I got a 4 rail gas block.  Anyway back to the my question, will the M96 fit on the gas block or does it need a bigger rail (i.e. SIR handguards)?

The M49/M50 mount length will be roughly 2 3/8" though you don't really need quite all that length to mount it.
