I've been looking for a new pistol grip for my first AR since the standards A2 one is hard as a rock. I've been eying the Magpul MIAD since they're so popular, but how comfortable are they? From the pictures they look pretty hard. What other grips do you like? Any that rival the MIAD in customization (inserts, etc)? Feel free to post pics.
Thanks for the help |

The hogue does look comfortable. Does it have any storage abilities like that of the MIAD?

The maid grip is nice but in my opinion over priced for a piece of hard plastic you might as well keep your A2 grip and save $35 bucks. |

the hogue is looking better and better. can anyone tell me if the Magpul MIAD is the same hard type, plastic, uncomfortable material as the standard A2? or is it at least somewhat more cushy

Hogue. I think mine was $14.95 from MidwayUSA. Very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.

I think the Tango Down Battlegrip is the best grip ever designed for the AR platform.
The duckbill covers "the gap" at the rear of the trigger guard, there are no finger grooves that can not fit some while fitting others, and it allows a very high grip. |

4 MIAD, 1 ERGO, 1 HOGUE. Prefer MIAD as it places trigger finger ideally when gripping stock. Hogue is soft but too narrow and does not place finger correctly.

I like the MIAD and the old Lone Star Ordnance trapdoor grip. I find it far more comfortable than the regular A2 grip. The same basic grip is available here:

TangoDown is definitely my favorite. The Ergo is quite good, but is larger than the TangoDown and because of this doesn't fit my size medium hand as well. The Hogue is very comfortable but lacks the storage compartment and the finger grooves definitely dictate where you place your hand.
I hope to convert all of mine to TangoDown Battlegrips in the future. |

Tango down...
No-frills, no finger-grooves telling me what to do, and it fits my little carney hands -RH |

I use tango down and miad, as well as a1. I love them all, especially miad set p like a1

Ergo fits my hand the best and I like the over molded rubber. I'll give the MOE+ a try when I can get one.

Iused to think anything but the military grips was a waste of money, but I got a used tango down off the Ee cheap and love it. I have several more at home that I am going to put on other ARs

I like my Magpul MOE grip. I used to have a Hogue but my fingers never fit right in the grooves.

Love both the Ergo and the Tango Down, but prefer the Ergo.
Only one I've not gotten to use is the Hogue. |

To clarify Magpul has three grips to choose from.
1. MIAD- Hard Plastic with rough side and back panel texturing. This grip has modular front and rear panels and includes differnet front and rear straps to custom fit grip to your hand. Takes optional watertight MIAD Battery/Bolt carrier cores. 2. MOE- One piece hard pastic with rough texturing on sides. Shape is similer to a MIAD with medium backstrap and no finger groove frontstrap. Takes all MIAD grip cores. 3. MOE+ One piece grip same as MOE above but outer surface is overmolded with softer rubber like material. MOE+ is not yet released but will be shipping very soon. Grips are very personal things. If anyone wants to test our grips out against anyone elses we offer a 60 day, no questions asked, return policy for just this reason. |

I have the ERGO grip currently, which is nice but waaaayyyy too small for my hands. Feels like a Smith and Wesson Magna grip with grooves to me. Is there a substantial size difference between the ERGO and the MIAD?

Wow, so many...
I have Ergo grips with gappers on most of my AR's, but I also have the CAA G27(?) grip on my Bushmaster 308. I went with a Tango Down grip on my department use rifle, because that one has a flashlight and an Eotech mounted, and I wanted the battery storage compartment. I recently bought the MIAD grip when Bushmaster had their tax sale, and I have to admit the grip feels great, especially when tailored to your specific wants. The hard plastic isn't any worse than an original A2 grip. I also like the duckbill grip, which eliminates the finger bump on the A2 grip that usually annoys the heck out of me, and the duckbill also covers the gap so no gapper is needed. So basically, whichever one you like best... you can see I use several. |

I like the MIAD myself... not much of a fan for "soft" grips as I'm the rough and tumble type. After putting all the larger pieces on, life is good...

Is there a substantial size difference between the ERGO and the MIAD? Ergo is longer front to back but thinner side to side than the MIAD This is why I went from the Ergo to the MIAD. I have larger hands and I liked the Ergo, but, it felt too thin. I only wish that the MIAD had a backstrap that was one size bigger (to bring the front to rear dimensions in line with the Ergo). My optimal grip would be an Ergo that was as wide as a MIAD. |
|
I have used almost all the grips on the market, Ergo, G27 Fobus ,A2, Tapco Saw,I finaly got the MIAD set up with the large backstrap...its the only grip that puts my finger where it should. I could even use a 2XL backstrap to be honest. All in all I love the look, feel and fit of the MIAD. I just ordered a second MIAD kit with the trigger guard (of course )for my other M4gry.
I like the look of the TangoDown grip I just dont think it would be thick enough for my big gorilla hands Ray |
