I have our 1-8x24 second focal plane ACSS and also our 1-6x24 first focal plane ACSS "Raptor". Both are in ADM mounts. I think they are awesome for the money. The Raptor is in the extra tall 1.93" mount that is the new hotness right now.

With the Raptor having a full four inches of eye relief, I don't think regular rings are an option unless you have a monolithic rail in the handguard area like an FN SCAR or a Colt 6940, or unless you like a crazy long length of pull and you're running an A2 stock with an add-on rubber recoil pad. You pretty much need a forward offset type mount of SOME kind when you have that much eye relief to contend with. Even the standard second focal plane version still has 3.5" of eye relief to contend with, if you are a "nose to charging handle" type shooter like I am, you're still gonna want an offset mount instead of rings for proper scope positioning, in my experience.

Here's my build that has the Raptor on it, you can see how tall the 1.93" mount is. It's like cheating, I surprised some shooter buddies by being faster with the Raptor than they were with red dots, because they had their red dots in absolute mounts. When they come up from a low ready they have to bring the gun up and squish their head down onto the stock at the same time, getting that firm cheek weld, before acquiring the dot. With the 1.93" mount I just hold my head straight up, drive the gun to the target, and I get a sight picture without "turtling" my head at all. Combined with a rifle optimized to reduce recoil, and I'm smoother, flatter and faster in rapid fire up close than my red dot buddies are.

Don't make fun of my belly, I'm working on it, ok? You can see how far forward of the receiver a lot of the scope body must be positioned, and my nose isn't even close to the charging handle here.


I like QD mounts because I swap around optics a lot. I have more optics than guns because I'm asked to make comparisons and write content as part of my job at Primary Arms. So for me a QD mount that really does hold zero reliably is worth a cost and weight penalty. If I didn't care about QD and wanted to save some weight, I would probably go with Aero Precision's lightweight mount, it seems to be really good for the money.
