Steiner P4xi 1-4 or Trijicon MRO?  Will be shooting mostly subs, maybe some hog or short range deer hunting.

Just curious why would you spend over $500 on an optic to hunt hogs when you can get a very good alternative for less than 1/2 of that in either a 1x4 or a RedDot?

I won't be spending anything because I already have both.  Just moving some optics around to different rifles and have these two to spare.

Use both.

Seriously, my 8.5" 300 BLK will wear the Steiner P4XI (borrowed from an 18" 556 rifle) during hunting season, and a vortex spitfire AR the rest of the year.

And if I find a good enough deal on a gen 1 PST 1-4 or another steiner, it'll get its own for hunting season.

Because I don't buy shitty stuff?

I almost picked up a P4Xi for my new 8.3" blackout build but ended up going with a PST Gen II 1-6x.

I voted MRO. Seems like a waste to use BDC on 300blk. I swapped from Burris 1-4 to T2 and been that way ever since.

P4xi

That's actually what I have on my main 300 BO SBR.   Which I use primarily for hog and up close deer hunting.   I used to have a Comp M4 on it, but the Steiner is like having the best of both worlds on it.

Will the stadia be accurate on the 1-4x?

I have my P4xi on my 10.5 300BLK SBR and I love it.  Great for close to intermediate ranges and easy to transition to subs with the reticle.

I had an Eotech on it and while it's considerably lighter it's not as easy to make precision shots at 100 yds nor adjust for bullet trajectory.

Use Strelok Pro to calculate bullet trajectory for various loads.  Works very well.

Playing with the zero distance in Strelok should solve any trajectory issues.

and

@tamu94

What are your thoughts on the P4xi for hunting at 150-200 yards? Is the magnification enough for your needs?

I'm browsing for a dedicated hunting optic for my sbr 300 and cant decide if 1-4 is perfect or if I want 1-6.

If 1-4 is the answer, its getting another steiner.

Aimpoint Pro for the win.

200 yards is the limit for a 4X hunting scope to me.  I don't plan on hunting with this rifle at longer ranges and because this is the ethical limit ballistically for my 300BLK hunting loads it's a good match. Barnes 110g TAC will be about 1650 ft/s at 200yds with my hand loads in my SBR and will be dead on the first holdover mark at this range and 0.5 inch high at 100yds (with a 50 yd zero).

Higher mag is always nice but only you can decide if you need it to match your hunting situation/style.  I plan to use this rifle as a primary ranch rifle for shooting hogs and other varmints.  I prefer neck shots for hogs and I am confident with this setup.

Just the reassurance I needed. Thank you. I'm figuring a 200 yard absolute MAX (reality is shots will be taken at 125 yards and in most likely) for my rifle with barnes 120 TACs, zeroed at 175 yards for a point blank zero good out to 200 yards with a max deviation of 2.5" up or down.

Looks like I need to order another Steiner...

Thank you!

Works fine for me.  Everybody is different, though.  I feel better off with less zoom and higher quality glass.
