I've got a 14.5 KAC AR that currently sports an Aimpoint H1. I have a Form 1 SBR that should clear soon (submitted via eforms on 04/15) and I will be moving the H1 to a BCM 11.5" ELW upper once that happens. I want a variable optic for my 14.5 and I would prefer something greater than 4x, which leads me to 1-6 optics.

I'm liking the Mk 6 1-6 from what I've read on it. I like the CMR-W reticles but neither one matches well with 55 gr, 62 gr, or mk262 ballistics for a 14.5 barrel, so I'll probably get a TMR reticle.  I'm also looking at an Accupoint 1-6. I looked at the Burris XTR's, but they are 12.5"+ long and seem a bit much for a 14.5, the Vortex Strike Eagle reticle looks a bit busy at 1x for my liking. The Vortex G2 1-6 is a bit heavier than I'd like, and the Kahles is more than a Mark 6.

Any other suggestions for a 1-6 optic? Am I crazy here? My logic: I have an 18" AR w/ a 3-18 scope for long range/precision and will have a 11.5"  w H1 for close range/"cqb" and this would be a great rifle for carbine classes. I'm thinking a 1-6 variable on my 14.5 would bridge the gap between the 18 and 11.5.

Get a mark 6 or a vcog.

If you have the money get the Kahles. Also check out Meopta.

I personally run a NF 1-4x FC-2 out to 500 with my 14.5". I have no issues hitting a 10" plate at this distance. Scope is small and rugged as hell. Illumination is only good for low light.

This, as to the Kahles, which with careful shopping can be had for about $2,100.  It is the only scope under $3,000 with turret tracking that is 100% accurate, out to extreme range and the glass is simply breathtaking.

I prefer a 16" barrel, but if you already have an 18", I understand the appeal of a 14.5.

In my honest opinion, a 14.5" is an ideal 300 yard rifle. You don't really need a BDC or the like for that kind of work. But magnification will allow for precision work.

Conversely, you would also benefit from a quick reticle.

Based on that, I think a 1-6 Accupoint with triangle BDC (colour in your preference) would ideally fit your needs/requirements.

YMMV

I've always liked the GRSC 1-6x.

I had the 1x4 and it took a while to get used to the reticle. When I did I found I loved it.

The 1x6 WILL be going on my next carbine. As soon as I can save the $$$.
