New to the AR world and i am trying to get a good long range varmit gun together. I have a upper from J&T 24inch bull  i want to couple it with a quality Scope for around $400-500. I am looking at the NIKON M-223 3-12x42SF , but i would love to hear if you guys have any other suggestions . I have a NIkon Monarch on my 7mm Rem Mag A-Bolt and i have had great luck with it, so i may be bias to Nikon. My ears are open!

Weaver (and Nitrex if you can find them on clearance), bushnell elite make good scopes in that price range

I put one of these on my varmint gun...  20" HBAR FF upper from J&T.

Burris Fullfield II™  Riflescope

          6.5X-20X-50mm

http://www.burrisoptics.com/fullfield1.html#65x20x

Can be had for around $400 (I ordered it from Amazon of all places).

More than you want to spend but I can attest to the accuracy of the ranging of the reticle. Very handy vs Kentucky windage or dialing elevation up & down out on the prairie.

Give it a good look before you buy.

Looking into the VORTEX viper PST ... looks pretty nasty. I will have to bump up about 100 bucks but it should be worth it... what do you guys think about the Viper?

Ditto - running a Nikon Monarch 5-20X on my Stag Model 6 Super Varminter and am equally impressed.

I have that scope in an M-223 mount as I wanted the 20 MOA elevation boost. I did mount my 6-24X50 Nikon Monarch in Burris Signature Zee rings (med) and it is perfect. Just above the barrel and yet enough room for the bolt to cycle on my Savage 10 FCP .308.

good glass, lousy turrets!

Burris is being left behind with there old coin slot / Hunter turret assembly. I'd bought quite a few of the Burris made Pentax Pioneers 4.5-14
on closeout from best buy's and cowboom. They are worth the $130.00 last year.

Nikon is hard to beat! Burris needs to step it up a notch or 2 IMHO! Those turrets are on there for a reason!

I'll be curious to hear how the vortex works and if you have a pic, I'd like to see how it looks. I've never seen any vortex scopes at the local shops so have no experience with them. I will be particularly interested to hear how well it returns to zero when using alot of clicks to dial in a particular range. That is the one thing that really impresses me with Nikon monarchs. You can click in a bunch of adjustment for different distances and is very predictable both windage and elevation.

A simple 20 round test I use for my scopes is: get a large target and shoot 5 shots at 100 yards. Then dial in 20 clicks of right and shoot a 5 shot group. Then click in 20 clicks of up and shoot a 5 shot group. Then 20 clicks of left and another 5 rounds. Then finally 20 clicks down and 5 shots. Now just look at that target and see how well your scope is set up. Simple test but will really show any weakness in the scope or the mount. BTW, I'm a big fan of those burris scope mounts. Not nearly as expensive as most others but seems very sturdy. Here is a pic of my humble varmint rig... predator pursuit with the monarch 4x16 mildot on a burris mount. I went with the smooth tops on the rings since I had no use for that tactical ring tops and they just get in the way. Rifle is way more accurate than I am.

burris FFII. coin slots have went the way of the dinosaur IMO.  Probably the best bang for the dollar knowadays is the Weaver 6.5-20x44 44/40 series scope. medium height semi target turrets, resetable for 0. about $175.00

LOCKING TURRET Red / green illuminated mil-dot reticle FLIP-UP LENS COVER 8-32x50 Rifle Scope FREE SHIPPING   List Price: $69.99
They ship from China so it takes 2-3 weeks.
My first order was small to test the waters, but he lives up to all his positive reviews on Alibaba(Aliexpress). Buy with confidence.

I'm in no way affiliated with the seller, but the price,
even with international shipping is a steal compared to what these scopes cost,
when you can actually find them and now that my order is in, I thought I would share!
