i have a 512 and a 517 and was thinking of getting a gen 1 monocular.will it work?

here is my answer from the other

"I used my 512 with a pvs14. On the lowest setting for the 512 it is almost invisible to the eye. The pvs14 picked it up just fine and it was very usable."

Like UH said, on the lowest setting, the NV will pick it up fine. Its not the best set up, but it will work fine for you.
