Needing a Scope under 1K to be used for hunting with ranges out to 400 yards.
Here are the main points to keep in mind.
1 - Quality
2 - great low light performance
3 - Power up to 18x
4 - mil-dot
5 - illuminating retical (optional)

Either 40 or 50 mm would be acceptable and would have to probably lean more towards the 50mm to help with the low light.

18x under $1k will be hard to come buy I think

I don't know about the price, but Burris has one

I was shopping for a long range scope and ended up picking the Nikon monarch 4-16 with the military dot reticle. Can't give any shooting reports with it yet since I just bought it but hoping it works out well. I shopped a bunch of scopes before picking this one adn it seemed to have the best balance of quality vs. price.
