I have a Nikon Monarch I got on special. It is a 6.5-20x44.
It is very clear and the 12" x 12" steel target at the range is as r5ght there @ 311 yards out. I pd ~$360 but that as a clearance special at Midway. Bushnell makes some that get good reviews and are in your price range. I think it is the 4500 series but I am not 100% sure. |

Natchez has a Browning 8-24x40 on closeout for $239.95. It has an AO and
mil-dot reticle. They are made by Bushnell in Japan, at the place they make their Elite 3200 and 4200 scopes. They have some other magnifications to choose from also. I purchased one and the glass it excellent, so I bought another one, 3-9x40 for a .22. |

I have been really impressed with the Burris Fullfield II scopes for the money. Excellent quality for a decent price. You can get them for around $300 or less for 3-9 or 4-14.

Might want to consider the Millett TRS-1 tactical scope. Its a 4-16x with a 50mm objective and 30mm tube. Turret style adjustment knobs, lighted mil-dot reticle and you can get it on sale at Midway for less than $300.

The Bushnell ELITE 3200 5-15x40mm Tactical Mil-Dot are very nice also.

The TRS-1 is very good. I shoot out to 600yds no problem. If you don't need the Illuminated reticle, Millet also makes a 6-24x50. |

If you went up to the $350-400 range, you could get one of the 4-16x new Nikon Monarchs or Bushnell 4200s. The have semi-target turrets that would be great for ranges out to 500 yards. Anything beyond 250-300 yards on a small target is going to require adjusting the scope or some expert holdover.

If you can bump up your budget another $100 to $400 you could get a Falcon Menace 4.5-18X56. I just recieved mine in the mail and it is now sitting on top of my ar10. It has target turrets that are 1/4moa. CLICK ME. The click me will bring you to my topic I just posted in the Ar10 forum. It wont say much about the scope but atleast you can see what it looks like. I also shoot NTCH which is why it is so far forward. I bought the scope from RWS two days ago and I recieved it today. I am very happy with it.

Bushnell Elite 3200 10X (Mil dot and target turrets) and have change left over.
Almost half the price of the Super Sniper and gets raves from owners, including me. Only downside it is not threaded for a sun shade. |

Just bought the super sniper myself for much the same purposes as you.
$299 + the extreme tactical burris extra high mounts for ~$50. Swweeeeeet, sweeet setup. Only thing I don't like at the moment is my YHM irons won't fit under it. I either have to get smaller ones or forget about irons. |

Wow the super sniper seems to be an affordable favorite. I read something about getting a military contact. Is there truth to this idea? I did some shooting today with my current scope. It was nailing targets on 16x, I wish it was a little clearer at distances more than 100yds. How do you guys like your SS 16x on a clear day vs partially cloudy?

I dont know what he is using, but I use Warne high rings. The rock solid steel and I can mount a 50mm bell on my rifle. The cheek weld is just right with my 6 pos stock. |

Both of mine are 10x. One is a rear paralax adjustment and the other is a side paralax adjustment. The side Paralax knob location is generally $100 more than the rear adjustment. IMHO the handiness and reachability of the side knob is somewhat better than the rear adjustment, but either of the Super-Snipers are awesome, great glass and on-target! (one of my SS's is mounted to my DSA FAL - it WILL reach out and touch someone - in the X-ring  )For the money, the Super-Sniper is an excellent bargain! |

Mine is on a bolt action with Burris Xtreme Tactical rings. On a flat top AR I would go with a Armalite mount to get it further out or a LaRue if the budget allows. |

I have a Nikon buckmaster mildot in the EE for $225. 4.5-14 x 40mm. Check it out, they're a good scope for the money. Nothing against super snipers or bushnells, but for hunting a variable is almost a must have IMHO.

Yup. +1 for the Bushnell 3200 Tactical models. I have a 10x40 (1inch rings) on my AR and was shooting 3/4" groups at 100 yards and kept everything on the paper in the 6ring or better at 500 yards. Solid performance and a darn good price. I paid like $180 a while back. I think they still go for that now. |

Nikon, Burris, Bushnell Elite, Super Sniper. All are good scopes.
Hell I've even got a Bushnell Banner 6-24x40 on a bolt gun...paid 110$ for it and am very happy with it. Its very clear and has held zero well, also has positive adjustments. (just throwing out there for an even lower priced alternative) |

I have a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14X40mm Mildot on my RRA varmint that i use for rockchucks ,bunnies,coyotes,whistlepigs,etc and it does just fine out to 500 yards.
The Mil dots are very helpful with hold over, even more so if you have a drop chartfor those long shots. |
