They will work fine, but most shotgun scopes are set to be parallax free at 50 yards, instead of the 100 to 250 yards that rifle scopes are. Also, some shotgun scopes require much more eye relief than what is practical in a rifle.
Try one before buying or make sure you can return it. |

I have a simmons 1.5 x 5 shotgun scope on one of my carbines. Works really well, and I only paid like $50 bucks for it off the EE.

i have a Leupold 1.5-4 and it was fine. Thinking about the Burris lighted optical pistol/scout rifle scope that is a 2-7.

I think I have that one, they are popular with three guns supposedly. I got mine for $ 50 from cdnn. |

+1 for the simmons 1.5-5 x20. Too bad they have been discontinued.

Two of the guys I shoot with run Leupold 1-4x shotgun scopes. Parallax set at 75yds. $199 from Cabelas, Bass Pro, etc.
They are able to shoot just fine out to 300yds and when we did a timed run (irons v. variable v. ACOG v. EOtech), the shotgun scopes were just behind the EOtech in speed at close range. In fact, some guys were faster with the variable. |

I currently have a 2-7X Nikon Prostaff on mine in which the parallax is set to 75yds. I haven't noticed an issue yet at 100yds.

I don't know how much you are willing to spend but if you look around, you can usually find pretty good deals on the Trijicon TA-21 or TA-21R either in the EE or on the samplelist where I got mine... 1.25-4X I have one mounted on a flattop in a Larue SPR-E mount and I like it alot. It is about the size and magnification of a shotgun scope, but with BAC. More pricey than the scopes mentioned above though...

Some of the shotgun scopes are available with a "turkey reticle". With more 'material' directed around the center area, I always thought this would be helpful for a scope that might serve limited use in CQB roles also, though I've never tried one out myself.

I had one of the Simmons on my M96 went to the range today and noticed the shots were all over the target when I adjusted the focus the scope come apart in my hand. Not Good.

I use a Nikon Monarch 1.5-4x with the turkey reticle. The diamond reticle is heavy which is great for short range work and the fine cross hair works great with long range shots. Not as cheap as the Simmons, but glass is much better IMO (I bought the Simmons first & didn't like it.)

Try a Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn 1-4x32mm shotgun scope w/ circle "X" reticule. 1/4 " MOA incremental adjustments@100 yds (just like rifle scopes). I have no issues w/ eye relief using an Armalite or RRA one piece mount. It works for me! Got two; both here at ARFCOM EE.

No, the popular one was 1.5-5x20. It had a huge field of view (FOV) compared to most scopes including the 1.5-5x32 model; something like 82 feet at 100 yards at low power. The other nice thing was the pro-diamond reticle. It was good for both close (big bold diamond reticle) and far targets (fine crosshairs inside the diamond). I run one on my flattop AR and recently found an old demo model for a spare. They were close to the perfect budget 3-gun optical sight and darn useful for carbines in general. They tend to sell quickly when listed. |

Yep, run one on my M4 flat top. Not the clearest glass, but works well. I wish I could find another one. |
