I know, on the AR. Seriously though I have a flat top with 4 rail hand guards. I can mount the Eotech by the rear sight, by the front sight, or any where in between. The further forward the bigger the circle. Is there any rationale for mounting at different positions along the receiver and hand guard rail?

Use it to balance the weapon. Also use it to find the best FOV that you can work with. It's really a personal choice.

I like it as far rearward as possible, just enough room for the BUIS and to access the EoT buttons.

The further back you mount it, the lighter the rifle will feel and point.
