so I guess I should save money and get the 512 Im not going swimming with my rifle and don't plan on getting night vision |

i would get a 512. unless you really want the nv option and have the money to buy an nvg setup.

As everyone else said the only real difference is the NV settings.
One thing you might to do is to keep an eye out for 552's on EE. If you are patient many times you may be able to buy a used 552 for about the cost of a 512 or less!
