There are others more expensive then LaRue. For a cantilever their price is not that high.

LaRue, GG&G or ARMS seem to be the front runners. All three have their + and - but the LaRue is the most "popular". I had an ARMS (not cantilever) but switched to the LaRue Cantilever a couple weeks back. I love it so far.

what is the benifit of the cantilever mount?

I mounted my Aimpoint and 3X magnifier with 2 of the Larue standard mounts and it works well.

what is the benifit of the cantilever mount?

Moves the optic foreward, easier to pick up the dot when shooting two eyes open & frees up valuable "rail-estate" for mounting other items such as the 3x magnifier.

ok, maybe I'm just not seeing it...

couldn't you just use 2 standard Larue mounts and still have room for the BUIS while keeping everything over the upper?

I ask bc that is my setup and it works well. I went to it bc if I did it the way you picture, I can't run my PEQ.

So...why would you want to use the cantilever if the other way works fine.

You already answered that with the qoute below.

I prefer the cantilever for the reasons I already stated. The further forward you can mount the optic, the easier and quicker you can pick up the dot ( when running without the 3x ). Eye relief is another reason. I run nose forward of charging handle, and it would be impossible without the cantilever mount to utilize the 3x.

You prefer two standard mounts for the reasons you already stated. No reason you can't run yours you way and me mine.

Part preference, part purpose.

Those are great pics of your rifle BTW.

You are right about the nose to charging handle. When I use my 3X, I have to extend the stock 1 click. I like it collapsed bc of the armor but the PEQ takes priority...

It came in the box so I figured might as well use it.

If so, how do you like it?

It doesn't hinder function, but then again, it doesn't seem like it would prevent damage from an impact either. If nothing else, it keeps the dirt out.

Maybe it wasnt available when he got it.

If you want a quick release mount, Larue is the best by far.

If you want something other than Larue that is equally as solid and the quick release feature doesnt help you out, the GGG mount is about as tank of a mount as one could ask for- equally as solid as the Larue. And that says alot.

The short and non-political version is this. The LaRue throw levers are adjustable. So they will fit any upper, even one that is slightly out of spec. And if you move the mount to a different upper you can adjust it to fit that upper as well.

In addition, the current crop or LaRue mounts have a locking throw lever that further ensures the mount will not come off, and almost litterally, becomes a part of your upper receiver.

Convenience and security in one.

Here's an ARMS 22M68 with a cantilever spacer on my Dissy.

Here's the LaRue on a photo of my M4gery.

I've owned both and like both. But in my worthless opinion, I like the LaRue better.

Some prefer longer eye relief. And I for one like the dot further forward. For me the dot further forward is faster and easier to see with both eyes open. YMMV - use what works for you, your gun is not my gun, and your eyes are probably much different then mine.

my range was my back yard

I have a 551 eotech on my 14.5 LMT M4!

and have a ML2 /arms 39 on my A1 shorty

I think I might switch to the aimpoint on my LMT

and but another goose neck for the eotech 551 and A1 shorty because the arms 39 wont work?

Why did you go with an M68 mount instead of the LaRue mount made specifically for the 3X magnifier (LT114 ?)?

The LT114 wasn't available at the time. It came out 2 weeks after I purchased the LT150.
