thinking of putting together an spr upper or complete . considering these type rifles should be capable of sub moa accuracy, would using an acog rather than something of higher magnification handicap the rifle as far as getting best accuracy?

Probably. Still easy to get rounds inside a silhouette, but harder to group them well. The smaller your aiming point, the smaller your group.

.......the better you see your target the better your shot placement will be.

The ACOG will limit you in two areas:

1. magnification limited to 4x

2. the ability to hold off elevation precisely based on accurate ranging, and hold off wind based on wind call is limited by the reticle

The 3-9x M/RT is a good baseline choice for a SPR type.

Click here and take your pick, they have a few different models. I would go with this one.

Are you serious about going with  an 8.5 x 25 x 50 for an SPR. The scopes size and power is more suited to a .50 CAl not a .223
