I shot some pictures of the 553 on my MRP this evening.  This is a really nice unit and the height is perfect without the need for a riser.  I would like to have the LaRue QD, but the throw lever is a good product and it will serve fine on the 553.

The mount is build very nicely inot the base so the lever is not sticking out in case it might get snagged.

The reticle is Rev F clear and the addition of the CR123 batteries made the sight a lot shorter, not as short as the 551 bit it did return some much need it rail space on the top rail.

The battery compartment is dummy cord, and the internals are blacked out so if you are in a very dark enviroment, your opponent will not see a faint red glow as the laser projection is bouncing off the lens edge and projecting.

I have not been told on the battery life but the number of 1500 hours have been tossed around.

More pictures coming in my Shotshow report...damn lot of photoshop with total of 150 pics taken at the Shot...

Enjoy.

Great looking sight, coming from an EOTech fan.

I would love to have a URX, I drool at yours Lee.  However, is the lighting affecting the color, or does it really look orange?

I neeeeeed my yearly SMGLee SHOT report fix.

To answer a few question,

the color is actully a very nice ark earth, but with the flash from the camera, the color did turn out a bit goldish.

It will be in black, Dark Earth and Ranger Green or OD.

As far as the 553 bandwagon, it is a nice sight with the necessary hardware build into it.. if you are not some ninja jumping off to battle in the middle of the night.. you are probably good to go with the standard 552.  the 553 does offer a few advantages...

1. shorter overall length
2. better battery life
3. integration with your Surefire, next gen IR laser batteries.
4. build in mount that is recessed into the base which also provent snagging.
5. an upgraed electronics
6. better dive rating.

like i said, if you are happy wiht your 552, i wouldn't bother..

No NV version is available for now.. this is a pure military sight..so this is as is for the time being..

whats the advantage between the CR vs. AA batteries? I figure the AAs are more readily available...someone convince me to wait for the new 553!!!

They are the same as flashlights so you don't have to carry both.

So with the build-in mount, does it still align the same with front/rear sights as the 55x/51x? What if you want to get a riser so the front/rear sights sits at bottom 1/3 of the view?

The 553's mount is already raised and put the irons at the bottom 1/3 of the sight window.

I've noticed that some businesses are taking pre-orders and the 553 will be around $580.

Chen, put the PEQ2 at 9 o'clcok and the EO further forward, you'll get a better view (without the EO's window frame) that way

"This is a really nice unit and the height is perfect without the need for a riser"

Why would a std EO need a riser anyway? The irons are allready in the lower 25% of the window.

Wouldn't a riser mean no more cowhitness?

Green0,

The standard EOTech mounted directly to the rail gives an absolute cowitness with the irons at the center of the sight window.  The riser like the LaRue EOTech mount will raise it get a cowitness at the lower 1/3 of the sight window.

IMHO, if you are using the EOTech properly this doesn't matter because the front sight will ghost out.  The only time this could possibly be an issue is for folks who like to run a fixed or deployed rear BUIS all the time.

Regardless, it won't matter soon because all the newer EOTech's will be redesigned with a higher mount...

So you are saying the 553 is not nightvision compatible?  I was under the impression that it would be.  Do you have the dimensions and weight of the unit?
Thanks

Sorry.. my typo.....
