I have seen reviews that state the new Nightforce 2.5-10X NXS is equivalent or better than other comparable magnification scopes like the Leupold M/RT. How is this possible, given the fact that the NXS has an objective lens diameter of 24mm while the M/RT is 36mm? What exactly does the objective lens on a scope do if such a smaller one can do the same job as a bigger one?

Larger objectives give greater exit pupils which only become an issue at twilight for the most part.

larger exit pupils also make it easier (faster) to properly align your eye with the scope. This works at all times of the day and night.

Right. The quoted exit pupil of the NF 2.5-10 is a teeny tiny 2.5mm at 10X. But I figure if you are shooting at something with 10X mag you are taking more time than usual anyway in lining up the shot...
