Good optic, kind of slow up close and not great for precision work, but its tough as nails and the glass is clear. Lots of Hadjis wish it had never been issued, thats for sure.

I guess all the ACOG stuff is simmering down now because you can actually get them.  Just a year ago it was the best thing since sliced bread.

This is the one I got biggest selling point for me was the 12 year warranty. I won't try to break it but at least I know that if I do I won't be SOL.

Is that model recommended for mounting on a Carry Handle?

If so, I might have to look into that for my A2 Upper.

It can be but I think you will be happier with it mounted to a flat top. I seriously considered getting one of those but in the end I couldn't get over the very small eye relief (1.5")

Pardon my ignorance, but what makes them so good?  I have been looking at them myself, but I can't see anything other than what the company says about them.

Why does the military use it so much?

Some have commented that it is not very good at close range, and ok at long?  Short eye relief?  Why are they so good?

Ive had one for a little over a year and love it. I still wish Trijicon would make a ACOG with the TA01 reticle but with the BAC feature as well.  The minute they do, this one goes up for sale....

the mount is actually integrated on the scope and all you have to is set on the carry handle and set the screw.

With the short eye relief, it gives you a large field of view. The Recoil in the AR-15/M4gery is low enough that the small eye relief isn't a problem. They are solid built like a tank & hold their zero when dropped from a plane (not that you will be, its just how excellant they are). The crosshare glows for lowlight/night shooting with the tritium source. The optics quality IMO is crystal clear. I love mine... i will never sell it unless trijicon makes them even more improved.

I would advise you to NOT buy such items off of EBAY as you might get screwed and EBAY may or may not help you. If a dealer advises that they are an authorized Trijicon dealer, I would double check that against Trijicons dealer list: www.trijicon.com/user/reseller/reseller.cfm

I got one of the mini ACOG's for Christmas (thanks ADCO!)  I can't wait to get it on my AR and go shooting.  Just ordered a LaRue QD mount for it...soon, soon.

I was able to work with EOTech, Aimpoint, and the ACOG so I was able to decide which I preferred for myself.  IMO, the ACOG is the best all around optic.  And there's the added bonus of never having to buy batteries for it.

Are there any questions I can ask the seller to verify I am receiving an authentic ACOG TA01?
Link Posted: 1/26/2006 10:04:18 AM EDT

Ask for the serial number, so you can "verify the date of manufacture and see how long the tritium will last."

Tritium has a 12 year half life. Some of the older ACOGs are approaching the point where they will need new tritium, which is expensive. To my knowledge, all ACOGs have serial numbers.

I have two ACOGs, the TA01 and the new USMC issue with BAC reticle, TA31RCO. RCO isRifle Combat Optic which is what the Marines call the ACOG. The BAC is Binden Aiming Concept which allows both eyes to stay open during firing. They are awesome products and will make ANYONE a better shooter than they would be with iron sites. This is exactly what the USMC discovered in Iraq. My wife loves here ACOG too as she really is able to put some rounds on target; hits make a shooter more confident and of course more lethal. The TA31RCos are very expensive, but worth it, IMO.

Semper FI!

The serial number is stamped in a dot matrix font and is located where the housing of the eyepiece meets the main body housing. Should be noticeable.

I'm a new ACOG user and I am quite impressed.  I got a TA31 off of Ebay.  The clarity is outstanding and the chevron crosshair is simple and not distracting like all the mil dot stuff.  It is truly built like a tank.  I paid dearly for it and had to eat beans and rice for a couple of weeks until the next pay day but it was worth it.

My first AR optic was a jap Colt 3X back in the early 80's.  It was like looking through a straw.  I was afraid the ACOG would be somewhat like this but the field of view is simply amazing.  It really feels like the scope is "one" with the rifle.

Ah, if only it were variable. . . . .Ok so Snoopy has nothing to do with the post, but I just found it.

I got this one, a TA01NSN couple months ago used for $425... made in 2001.
Good scope but I'm not sure if it is "better" than my holographinc sight or the Aimpoint when mounted on my AR Carbine.  It does offer a lot of advantage over my holo or Aimpoint when shooting over 100 yards.  I think it will end up on my "mid-range" AR when I finish it.

I think that's the point of the TA01 and TA01NSN. The cross-hair reticle and the bullet drop compensation is for taking more precisely aimed shots at longer than CQB distances. They are designed to do what a 2MOA or 4MOA dot cannot do.

With all due respect your a dealer and Ebay cuts into your profits. Yes ebay will not help you but you can stop pay your credit card. I have had good luck on Ebay with the exception of one dead beat seller.
