I am considering an ACOG TA01, for my SHTF Carbine.
It has an A-1 upper, with a non-removable carry handle.
If I put a TA01 on the carry handle, will I still be able to use a normal cheek weld on the stock?
I don't want to invest the money in an ACOG, if I have to rest my chin on top of the stock in order to be able to see through the scope.

Thanks for looking.

I have a compact on my A1 and it works great.  Not sure about the TAO1.

Gary

I am running a TA31 on an A1 carry handle and it's a little higher than I would like, but it is by no means unworkable. I actually reference my cheek on the strap of my spectergear buttstock ammo pouch and it works pretty well.  ACOGs are bitchin and if you have the funds, do it!

Compact ACOG with BAC is a good choice.

TA01, on a carbine, is a bad choice.

The reason I was interested in the TA01, is that I like a crosshair reticle for longer range shooting. I never really looked at the compacts, do they have crosshairs? I was under the impression that they were donuts, or chevrons. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks.

Problem is a carbine is meant for quick, close in shooting the TAO1 is the wrong optic for that kind of shooting.  The fine crosshairs don't pick up very fast.

Compact ACOGs have 3 different reticules, Triangle, Dot, and Crosshair.  All 3 reticles glow brightly day or night allow for quick - both eyes open - shooting.

For $100 you can buy a flattop receiver and end the misery. Find a local arfcomer with tools and you can change it out for free yourself.

If I wanted a flat top upper, I would have put one on when I built the rifle. I chose the A-1 upper for a reason.

i prefer the compact acog as well on an a1 upper and would also agree that the ta01 isnt the best choice for doing so.

i feel that the chevron or triangle is good for precision shots as well.

TA31 is the way to go.
Donut for fast acquisition, BDC reticle for the longer shots.

I just got an eotech for my AR, and i have the non removable A2 handle, but i also have a Delta cheek piece on the rifle stock, it works great. The big draw back is, with the cheek piece, its impossible to use the iron sights. And to remove the cheek piece you have to remove the entire butt stock which is not just a quick option.

It's not optimal for CQB work.
