Since the new M3 model gets 50,000 hours of run time can I just leave it one all the time on a daylight level setting and leave it in the unit rack?????  Will the diode or any other component become damaged from doing so since it's like 6 years of run time......

I seem to recall that the M2 and M3 never actually turn off, they just get turned down really, really dim.

Correct. The M2 and M3's first 3 settings are for NV. So it is always on, you just cannot see it.

I know they're not M3's, but I've left my M2's on setting 5 (of 9) since I bought them in 2002 with no burn-in.

September 29th will be 10 months for the set of batteries in them now, and they're still going strong.

There is nothing to burn in since it is just a diode and a plain lens - no LCD, cathode ray, etc.

besides how long the battery lasts, doesn't the diode have a life of it's own? It has to be long, but definite?

im pretty sure it should outlast the battery life and along with that, outlast more than a couple battery changes.
