I saw it down (or up) at the survival forum.

They said it is equal to Gen 3, I find that one hard to believe, BUT for the price, I'm willing to compromise!

Is this as great as I think it will be, or should I just go take a cold shower?

Features of Weaver NightView Digital Night Vision Scope:

Built on Digital Imaging Technology: Weaver's state-of-the-art digital imaging technology yields a far crisper, contrast-rich image versus competing models. Weaver uses a Sony high-sensitivity CCD image sensor and displays through a premium ferroelectric liquid crystal ocular viewer. User adjustable illumination and image controls provide further refined detail.
Preserves Viewer Stealth: Images are displayed through NightView's premium quality eyepiece viewer. Competing models utilize a bright LCD display that lights up the user's face and seriously impairs their eyes' sensitivity to light.
Targeted illumination: Tight illuminator dispersion on target yields a crisper, more refined image versus the wide spray illumination effect of competing models.
Includes Three High-Quality Light Filters:
Green: Provides the greatest image
contrast and detail
Red: Preserves your night vision
Neutral: Minimizes amount of light to the eye
Easy-to-use: Can be easily operated with one hand.

For what is was designed to do, it is probably not a bad unit.

For myself, as NV is an expensive proposition, I want something that can be head, helmet, and/or weapon mounted.

I would also, but for the price, if it has image quality of gen 3 SIGN ME UP!!

I'm not that high speed that I would need weapon mounted, but I bet you could rig this to fit your head somehow.

If it's equal to GENIII, then why does it need active illumination?
