I have a RRA Tactical handle that I’d like to mount an Aimpoint to. I want a 1x model, and it looks like M2/ML2 and M3/ML3 are the most popular models (I’m not even sure what the difference is between M2 and M3 models; still trying to find out more info, so any help would be appreciated). What mount/adapter/ring do I need (if any) to mount one of these optics (I think they all are the same size) so that it co-witnesses with iron sights? TIA.

You need the "X" mount shown here: www.rockriverarms.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=AR0052CASY&storeid=1&image=chndls.gif&CFID=2454888&CFTOKEN=11115190

RRA will fix ya up.

Mike

ps - the newer M3 Aimpoint has a smaller 2 MOA red-dot than the older ML2/M2 versions, the ML versions are non-IR compatible with the M2 & M3 being IR vision compatible.

FWIW, most prefer not to go the route your headed w/ the RRA Tactical DCH and would rather mount directly to the flat-top.

Mike,
Do you have part # for that "X" mount? The link you posted shows two handles (the one on the right is the one I have), but it doesn't mention "X" mount. Their "Aimpoint Comp and Mounts" page doesn't list it either...
Thanks,
Alex.

Thanks for clearing that up. I knew the difference between M and ML models, but wasn't sure about ML2 and ML3 differences. As far as dot size difference goes, M3/ML3 is available in both 2 MOA and 4 MOA configurations according to Aimpoint's website.

I noticed that Tac handles aren't very popular, but I'd like to use it since my rifle came with it. I could still go the flat top mount route and just get one of the ARMS mounts (or something else), but I'd have to buy another BUIS, which translates into more $$$.

Believe this is the same mount as shown there at RRA link: www.riflescopes.com/products/10187/aimpoint_light_weight_30mm_ring.htm

It has to be quite low inorder to co-witness with the set-up ya got there.

Well, I guess off to eBay it is then... Thanks guys!

Now, what do I need to get me going in the right direction? I have no plans to use NV or magnifier on this rifle (if I'm dealing with distances where magnification is needed, I'll grab for my 20" RRA with TA11 ); all I want is a good setup with a good 1x optic to go on top of a 16" upper for close ranges. I guess I'm open to all suggestions and ideas at this point since all my previous plans are out the window now.

I'm leaning more towards Aimpoint. I'm not crazy about EOTech's sight picture - I prefer Aimpoint's red dot. It will also give me more consistent sight picture when going back and forth between it and my TA11.

What about ARMS mounts? How do they compare to LaRue mount? I see many people use ARMS mounts, so they must be good parts. If I were to get ARMS mount, what are the part numbers/models for me to look at that would co-witness an Aimpoint with irons.

And finally, what's the good BUIS for this setup?

TIA.

EDIT: Looks like BookHound answered all my questions before I even posted them. Thanks. Oh, and BTW, how much for that ARMS 22M68? Any pictures?

Thanks again for your help guys. I've also purchased from Grant before (a while back), so the plug wasn't really necessary.

Grant,
Could you run some of those package deals numbers by me (PM or email would be fine, too)?

Got it. I'll be in touch as soon as I make up my mind here and decide what I want.

Could someone point me to a picture or two of Aimpoint mounted with LaRue cantilever mount?

Mark,
Thanks for the link. I looked through a few picture threads and have seen a few cool setups. I've found a picture of the LaRue mount itself, but haven't seen one mounted. I think I'm leaning more towards cantilever mount (whether it be LaRue or ARMS) to keep the sight further away.

Yeah, that's the downside of reading those picture threads; they usually make the reader poorer and get him in trouble with theCFO.
