OK, I've tried searches and done lots of reading, but I want to make sure I'm not going to screw this up.

I just ordered an EO Tech 512 for my work-issued Colt AR15A3 (16" bbl).  I plan on mounting it straight onto the flat top, and putting on a YHM rear BUIS.  I plan to mount the EO as far back as possible, so I will get a bigger 'window' - I see no real reason to mount it forward.

This is a work gun, and I want to get it 10-8 ASAP.  Am I missing anything with this setup.  Is there a huge advantage with a lower 1/3 cowitness b/c the YHM riser is only $40.

Should I locktite the crap out of everything?  I shoot maybe 1-2 times a month, but the rifle rides in a soft case in the trunk alot.

If anyone sees a glaring ommission on my part, let me know.  Feel free to show any pics of similar setups, and give me war stories of any advantages/disadvantages you have dealt with.

Oh, and it's you guys' fault that I'm spending this money.  I'm getting drawn deeper into this stuff, and I like it.  My wife hates you all .

Mounting forward offers 2 advantages.

1) Makes it quicker to pick up the reticule (reticle has less area for 'float' in).

2) Reduces the area that the frame/roll bar block from your vision.  The further out it is the less it blocks your view.

IMHO is a personal issue - personally I much prefer the display to be as clutter free as possible.

Am I missing something?  I hate being the guy who doesn't get the joke, when everyone else is rolling around on the floor laughing.  Am I that guy right now?

Guess so.  It's like asking if the Pope is Catholic...

I would loc-tite the BUIS, and possibly the YHM riser, if you decide to get it.

EOTech recommends that you don't use loc-tite on the site.

I too like the EOTech mounted further back (with 2 slots left for the BUIS). I feel that having it out front provides a small window for the reticle to show up in, IMO of course. I can certainly understand the point of having it out further to reduce the area that the hood takes up, but I don't have a FF rail, and I wouldn't want it out there if I did.

Ah.  Gotcha.  It takes me awhile (I'm not very bright).

Thanks for the replies.  Sounds like there's no big problems so far in the stuff I ordered.

Someone could throw down some porn to motivate me.

Anyone use the YHM rear BUIS?  Is it OK, or does it suck?

I'm hoping for no headaches.  We shall see.
