Ok is this how mil-dot works?

Find target size X
Find how many mils target takes up Y

Y*3.6=Z
X/Z=A
A*100=Distance in yards

example
Y=3 mils
X=70" (5"10)

3*3.6=10.8
70/10.8=6.48
6.48*100=648 yards

is this right?

(Size of object (yards or meters) X 1000) divide by size in MIL

i.e.  A 6' tall man is 2 yards tall.  When measured in MIL lets say he is 5 MIL tall.  Take his height of 2 yards times 1000 and divide by 5...he is 400 yards away.

Of course it gets a little more complicated when the object is 2.25 yards tall and when measued in MILs is 3.75 MIL tall.  You either have to be really good at math or cheat and get one of the mil-dot master tables that are available.

They are pricey.  But I find it easier than having to take my shoes on and off several times during my shooting day.
